Youth Race Team

Bronte Harbour Yacht Club Youth is Steers Regatta best junior club champions 2014-2015 and Ontario Sailings junior program of the year 2014-2016.  BHYC Youth Racing program continues the tradition of podium placings on the Ontario Circuit year after year.

Opti Learn to Race

This program is for the ‘first year racer’. Typically, Opti Learn to Race is a developmental program for those who want to understand racing rules and want to compete against friends! Racers interested in this program should have achieved at least CANSail 1 in order to qualify for this team.  Early spring team meetings and on-land lessons will begin this program with a full time program (Monday to Friday) commencing Tuesday July 2 to August 23rd. There are additional costs involved with regatta registrations and travel expenses. Racers can expect 4 regattas. A boat is not included in this program. You must also register for Opti Learn to Race Boat Rental if you require the use of a club boat. Boat rentals are limited and will be on a first-come first-served basis!

Opti Championship Racing

Racers interested in this program should have achieved at least CANSail 2 in order to qualify for this team. BHYC Race Team spring training occurs in May and June (weather and access dependent). The summer program runs Monday to Friday from July 2nd to August 23rd. Fall training is also included. Fall training and coach support will continue until the end of October, weather permitting and racer willing. 

Additional costs are involved with regatta registrations and travel expenses. Racers can expect to attend 6-8 weekend regattas. Racers at this level should have their own personal boat.

A boat IS NOT INCLUDED in this program. You must choose Opti Racing Boat Rental if you require the use of a club boat. Boat rentals are limited!

Single Handed Racing

(Bring Your Own Laser/Radial)

Racers interested in this program should have achieved at least CANSail 3 in order to qualify for this team. BHYC Laser Race Team begins training in early May and June. The summer program runs Monday to Friday from July 2nd to August 23rd. Fall training is included and will run until the end of October, weather permitting and racer willing. Additional costs are involved with regatta registrations and travel expenses. Racers can expect to attend 6-8 weekend regattas. A boat IS NOT included in the program. Private laser/radial ownership is required. 

13% HST will be added to those racers aged 15 and older.

C420 Double Handed Race Team

(Boat Not Included, Rentals Available)

Double-handed racing involves a strong relationship and commitment between a skipper and crew! Individuals interested, are encouraged to seek out a partner and sign-up in pairs. Both skipper and crew should have achieved at least CANSail 3 in order to qualify for this team.

Spring training occurs in May and June. The summer program runs Monday to Friday from July 2nd to August 23rd.Fall training is included and will run until the end of October, weather permitting and racer willing. Additional costs are involved with regatta registrations and travel expenses. Racers can expect to attend 6-8 weekend regattas.

A boat IS NOT INCLUDED in this program. You must choose one of the C420 BOAT RENTAL options below if you require the use of a club boat. Boat rentals are limited!

13% HST will be added to those racers aged 15 and older.

Boat Rental Information

Opti Learn to Race and Championship Charter Rental

Participants without their own Optimist sailboat can rent one from the Junior Sail Program for use during the Race Program`s activities. There are 5 available boats which are allocated on a first come/first served basis. The rental fee covers the use of the Optimist throughout the summer. A $400.00 damage deposit is also collected, which will be refunded on return of the boat in pre-season condition. 

This rental will be subject to the terms of a charter agreement that must be completed in person with the Program Manager or a designate of the RC-Training. The boat will be available for the training season dated covered by the applicable Youth Racing Program (see above)

 

C420 Race Charter Rental

Participants without their own C420 can rent one of BHYC`s ZIM C420s for use during the Race Program`s activities. There are 4 available boats which are allocated on a first come/first served basis. The rental fee covers the use of the C420 throughout the summer and during Spring and Fall training should your child choose to extend the sailing season. A $400.00 damage deposit is also charged which will be refunded on return of the boat in pre-season condition. 

This rental will be subject to the terms of a charter agreement that must be completed in person with the Program Manager or a designate of the RC-Training. The boat will be available for the training season dated covered by the applicable Youth Racing Program.

Participant Responsibility

Upon registration, participants will be required to sign a waiver accepting responsibility for damages, injuries and liabilities relating to these. The Bronte Harbour Yacht Club is not liable for these and other circumstances leading to injury. A photo release waiver will also be required to sign accepting or not accepting pictures/videos of your children to be used for promotional purposes at Bronte Harbour Yacht Club.

Drop off in the morning 9:00am, Pick up in afternoon 4:00pm

Before and after care is available from 8-9am and 4-5pm
