In 2011, BHYC increased Membership, had excellent participation at our regattas, saw excellent results from our junior race program, and reduced club expenses better than 10%.  For 2012 to continue these trends we are looking to our Membership and all who would like BHYC continue healthy growth for ideas of what we can do now and where we go next.   Good ideas are hard to come by, they can be sparks of brilliance, or often a slow hunch of a thought that you grow over time – a thought that you have now.  Good ideas become great ideas when we share and discuss them as a Club, we can build upon each other’s ideas and link them together so that the results are far better than when we try them independently.  If you have an idea to share on how we may improve Membership, improve Racing, improve Social activities, improve Sail School, improve our Costs, bring them forward to your Board, or to the Long Range Planning Committee.  Feel free to leave a note at the bar, email me at commodore@bhyc.on.ca, or join in an Open House discussion March 22nd, 7pm the Club.  We will share the results with the discussion back to the Membership, with the LRPC, and the Board.  We will do what is viable to do now, an incorporate the future ideas with long range plan.

BHYC has been very well represented so far this year internationally and with Provincial awards.  The Hans Fogh Developing Sailor of the Year award went to Sharath Kunnanath. George Blanchard Provincial Champions Award went to Sharath Kunnanath – for Laser & Sam Thompson/ Jeremy Korb/ Billy Fuse for Club420

Michael Hasko was nominated for Coach of the Year, and Bronte Rocks was a strong nomination for Regatta of the Year.  Dave Smith and the crew on Game Changer raced the Key West Race Week as a start to their winter race season, next stop St Petersburg NOOD. – Good luck Game Changer!  Joanne Prokop has been training and racing in Miami with her eyes on the Olympic prize.  Lots of activities on the go, if you have a story to tell get in touch with Cam Watt at membship@bhyc.on.ca

For policy this month, we drafted a new Procurement policy to guide the Board on items such as multiple quotations for high cost items in addition to what our bylaws speak to.  It may be found in the Members section of our website under Documents & Forms.

Canada Border Services Agency has agreed that the downstairs payphone is no longer required as part of our Landing Site obligations.  Upon return to Canada please use the House phone during our regular Club open hours or other local phones available in the harbour area.  This change will save the club approximately $800/year – it was an idea

See you at the Club,
