Annual Club Events
Bronte Harbour Yacht Club hosts many annual events both on and off the water. Below is a brief description of some of the non racing events we enjoy at BHYC.
Spring General Meeting
Usually held mid April this meeting is an update for members with reports from all flag officers and directors and usually highlights spring activities and is an opportunity for members to vote on any major changes to BHYC. This is a chance to participate in the workings of the club, attendance is very important to keep informed.
Spring Launch
Usually held the first weekend of May, members come together to help launch their boats for the season. All members with boats launching must be present. This is a great opportunity to volunteer either putting boats in the water or helping to clean up the yard.
First Club Race
Usually held during the first two weeks of May, this is the begining of BHYC's racing season and club series. More information can be found on our racing page.
Sailpast
Usually held during the first two weeks of June, this is a day to pay respect to your club, commodore and community. The event starts in the morning with the blessing of the boats, then official sail past on the water, sailors enjoy some of the afternoon on the lake and are welcomed back to the club for refreshments.
New Members Reception
Usually held in mid June, members come out to welcome sailors new to BHYC. New members are introduced, presented their club burgee and refreshments are shared by all.
Visually Impaired Sailing Program (VIP)
Members volunteer their time to run Ontario's largest visually impaired sailing program. This week long event is held at the club in late June.
Canada Day At BHYC
Usually a pursuit race to a favorite destination ending with fireworks anchored off the bluffs at Bronte Beach.
Junior Learn To Sail Begins
Our daily Learn to Sail program begins in July running through to the end of August. Young sailors are introduced to the fundimentals of sailing. This program has been an important part of BHYC since it was established in 1962.
Thank Goodness Its Friday Fun Race
Take out friends and family once a month starting in June. TGIF races are held each month and usually conclude with a Pot Luck style dinner and beverages at the club
Civic Holiday Cruise
This cruise is always during the long weekend, other cruises are held throughout the year check the Cruising page on the website for more details
Sailing School Banquet
This dinner and awards evening marks the end of the BHYC Learn to Sail program. This banquet is a tradition since 1962. Members volunteer to host this events for Junior Sailors and Parents involved in the Learn to Sail program.
Bronte Rocks
Our Premier racing and social event! This regatta features dinners, famous refreshments, entertainment and the best racing you will find.
Darts
BHYC has a large darts league in the fall and winter with tournaments with neighbouring clubs.
Fall Spaghetti night cook off
A friendly tasting of members sauce. Trade recipies and enjoy good company with members.
Awards Night
Usually held in mid November. Come out to see our club champions and enjoy a night of awards, dinner and dancing.
Annual General Meeting
Members are invited to hear year end reports from the Commodore, Flag Officers, and Directors. Members have a chance to look at our fiscal year, ask questions, and be informed about news within the club. This is the opportunity to come and volunteer to take a guiding role with our yacht club, candidates are voted in to the Board of Directors by the membership.
Friday Night hors douvres
Held each Friday in the Winter, members unwind after a long work week at the club.
Turkey Roll
Bronte Harbour Yacht Clubs largest charity fund raiser for the community and learn to sail program. Members enjoy raffles and auctions, all procedes go to help the community. This event runs in early December. Tickets for dinner are sold in advance. Price of admission is a non perishable food item - beter yet bring a bag full!
Carol Sing
Come enjoy a carol sing in the month of December with all of our musically tallented members
New Years Levee
The club is open on the first of January. Start your new year right: come down enjoy some snacks and refreshments.
Pond Hockey
Enjoy life on the water a different way: come down and play some pond hockey with fellow members!
Commodores Punch Bowl
Usually held in January, welcome your new or returning Commodore and enjoy some refreshments.
Sailors Night
One evening each month over the winter season BHYC hosts a guest speaker for members.
Mast Crane and Dry Sail Hoist Training
Held in the spring and fall, these sessions are manditory to get an access key to the club crane. This evening is a no cost traning day for you to learn safe practices at BHYC
Family Movie Night
Bring the whole family for Movie Night. Kid friendly movies and snacks, and good times for adults always.
Sailors Forum
A night to ask questions, express concerns and be an active participant in shaping racing at BHYC. This evening is a forum for racers and the kick off of planning for the season to come.
Spring Fling
Held in early spring this is a chance for sailors to bring the whole family out for a night of dinner, dancing and good times. Tickets sell quick so make sure you get yours if you want to participate.
