March 2012 has been one of our most successful months in the recent history at BHYC!
The list of events including Sailor’s Nights, Dennis Toewes, Winning Darts Tournaments, Our 50th Celebration, St Patrick’s Party, Crew Night, and the Grampian Draw made for a busy and exciting lead up to our summer season. Thank you to all who organized the events, and to those who attended and had a great time!
Our Grampian Draw was held March 30th, and raised over $2700 for our Visually Impaired Program (VIP) Sailing Week. Thank you to all who purchased tickets, prepared the boat, and to John & Beth McMullen for leading the fundraiser.
June 2nd, 2012 will be our Annual Sail Past, I forecast it to be warm and sunny to make up for last year’s weather. Breakfast will be served at 9am and Blessing of the Fleet kicks off the Day’s celebrations at 11am. In the evening we will be celebrating our 50th Anniversary, if you would like to get involved in the 50th Celebration please contact Jim Pollock.
Our ‘Ideas’ Sailor’s Night was a good discussion of opportunities for BHYC; most were related to growing the Club and the activities we host. There is a list of some of the Opportunities in the Signal, if any are of interest to you for your work party hours, contact the person indicated. Many of the events we hosted in March were a result of great ideas brought to life; many were collaborative efforts by our Members, so grab a friend, or some of your Crew and try something new. Perhaps host a Friday Appetiser Night, Weekend Lunch, Improve our Clubhouse, or organize our Crewbank?
Your Board has also been busy with a number of meetings in addition to our Monthly Board meeting. Event dates have been set, Budgets have been finished, Preparations for Spring Launch, Licence meetings with the Town, Social Committees, and changes for this summer’s Sail School.
I would like to thank Tom Box for his time as RC Training; he has resigned to focus on our Licence activities. Sean Hewson will assume the role of Chair of the Sail School Committee.
Your Spring Special Meeting is April 10th, 7pm. All Members in good standing are welcome to hear the latest updates from the Board and to participate in leading BHYC’s direction. There are a number of important items on the agenda; hear it first hand and plan to attend. If you are unable to attend, and have any questions, email me at commodore@bhyc.on.ca See you at the Club, Jay Kirkpatrick
